ABOUT ELIZABETH
Elizabeth Ayten Berent was born to create. From furniture to food and painting to papiér- machie. She has spent her life imagining possibilities.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Elizabeth moved to Turkey more then four decades ago and found a culture rich in history and diversity. The vast differences between her experiences in the United States and her new life in Europe inspired and delighted her. In an effort to blend the East and West, the result is an eye for the unusual, grounded in traditional mediums.
Putting her education in interior design to work, Elizabeth began designing furniture that eventually led to consulting others. Her inspired vision oversaw the interior layout of a foreign Embassy and a four story, 12 family residence for their government facilities in Ankara.
Her extraordinary gifts stretch far beyond furniture, interiors and design. Elizabeth has done a series of International Television programs as the interviewer, Chaired organizations for 10 years, been referred to as the Ambassador of Culture and gives speeches regarding the Migration of the Osman Turks and the Influence on Today's Middle East Cusine. All this is the result of her combining her past with her present surroundings. As a result of this need to learn and create, Elizabeth possesses exceptional culinary creativity as well, and she's shared her skill through cooking demonstrations and a popular cookbook, A Pinch of Imagination .
Her passion is now consumed with the thing that she has always loved; her oil paintings. Her inaugural gallery showing in 2009, sold nearly every piece displayed. She is showing in various galleries in Texas and recently had three individual exhibitions in or around the D.C. area.
Her next private showing will open in Ankara at the Bilkent Art Gallery on 12 April at 18:30. She will then be at Cağdaş Gallery for a group showing on 5 May, opening at 18:30.
